Old Is New Again.
The cover of the new Rolling Stone rag extolls Eminem as the 'voice of America'. Man. The bottom of the bucket of music has officially been
scraped.
So where do we go from here?
Backwards. Retro-crush. Rewind.
The only place this summer / fall to find 'real' rock and roll is to go with what we know. Have you guys seen the upcoming American tour schedules?
Reads like 1980's recycled.
Aerosmith & KISS are paired.
Boston is touring.
David Bowie is dropping a new joint and touring.
The Eagles. Eric Clapton. The Stones. The Dead have resurrected themselves. Judas Priest reformed.
Iron Maiden with openers Dio and Motorhead.
Tom Petty. Peter fucking Frampton is out. Fleetwood Mac. Marshall Crenshaw (!). The Buzzcocks. X. Anthrax.
The Gin Blossoms are touring.
How about the "80's Wave Flashback Tour" with Missing Persons, A Flock of Seagulls, General Public & (a personal fave of my own),., Berlin.
Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat are making a run.
Neil Young still wants to say 'hey hey my my' to you.
Steely Dan.
Great White wants to set America afire again.
Of course ,., The Doors are at it.
REM are touring. So is Duran Duran.
Poison, Vince Neil & a Bach-less Skid Row.
Def Leppard. AC/DC. The Allman Bros.
Metallica. Springsteen.
If Joey was alive,., The Ramones would be out there showing all these Sum 41, Blink 182 bubble-punkers how it's done.
If Jim Morrison was kickin' ,., The Cult would be out getting their fair share.
Are we going in reverse musically?
Is hip-hop the voice of America's youth?

Wow, old is new (or now) with all those old 70's and 80's bands touring.
I guess I do prefer that old time rock n roll as I'm going to see The Doors and Neil Young this weekend. I can't deal with the hip hop of today.
I was sad to have missed The Buzzcocks when they were in town a month or so ago. I loved them since the 70's and have never had the pleasure of
seeing them live. Has anyone out there seen The Buzzcocks either back in the day or recently? I did see Magazine (Howard Devoto fronting the band)-
far from the Buzzcocks but as close as I got.
Yeah, Buzzcocks, The Cult, The Clash, The Doors, Def Leppard, Neil Young, Ramones, Sisters, Generation X, Aerosmith (early), Cream... I prefer the
old!!!!!
I'm probably out of the loop.... If anyone can recommend some good NEW bands... Do tell.

Damn, RS sucks is not a new slogan, but naming eminem as the voice of america just crowned their mediocrity.
I feel sorry for some of the youngsters who believe this shit is THE SHIT.
Let's hope the rewind action takes place.
PS : Someone please beat Page, Plant and Jones with a hammer in the head, so they may think it is a good time to do a great hits tour for the sake of
the good music , just one last time to show us how the west was won

Bowie is cool, but he hasn't done anything of note since the early/mid 1980's ...
I liked the Eagles (note: past tense) until they did their first reunion/ farewell tour in '94 - since then they've been middle aged men
doing "adult contemporary" rehashes of songs they made popular 20 + years ago ...
A Flock of Seagulls --- I wonder how their hair do's are holding up after the last 25 years?
R.E.M. - S.U.C.K.S.
B.O.C. - now that might actually be pretty good ...
Pete Frampton - another one hit blunder desperate to drain his 15 minutes of fame a little more ...
Def Leppard - Planet Girl and I already discussed their descent into oblivion a couple of months ago, no need to rehash that here again, we'll leave
the rehashing to Def Leppard ...
... but as bad as some of these bands are, I'd still rather listen to them instead of eminem
... bring back Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin ...

Duran Duran Invade L.A. Again
Newspapers and calendars might say it's 2003, but in L.A. last night (July 15th), it was 1983 all over again -- the five original members of Duran
Duran, playing together for the first time in over fifteen years, caused pandemonium on the
Sunset Strip.
Fans mobbed the tiny Roxy, where twenty years ago the band gave their first U.S. performance; last night they kicked off brief American tour to, in
the words of keyboardist Nick Rhodes, "test out new material."
The combination of the five original members -- singer Simon Lebon, Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor -- and
the intimate venue (which holds about 450 people), drove ticket prices outside to a staggering $1,500.
The lucky few who got in -- including Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Gwen's No Doubt bandmates Adrian Young and Tony Kanal, Sugar Ray frontman Mark
McGrath, Beck, actress Christina Applegate, and Beck -- saw the quintet revisit their entire breadth of their catalogue.
The opener was "Friends of Mine," from their 1981 self-titled debut, and the band drew heavily on that album, playing "Girls on Film," "Planet Earth,"
and "Is There Something I Should Know."
While there were a number of hits in the set -- "Come Undone," "Ordinary World," "Hungry Like the Wolf," and "Rio," -- as well as obscure old tracks
like "(Waiting for the) Night Boat," the band completely ignored the album Seven and the Ragged Tiger (including the hits "The Reflex" and "Union of
the Snake").
Duran Duran, at work on the first record with the full classic lineup in twenty years, showed off only two new songs, the mid-tempo "What Happens
Tomorrow," and the melodic "Virus," a pop song with an ominous vibe built around driving guitar and a omni-present bass line.
"Once we made the decision to get back together, we started writing," Rhodes said at an after party at the Chateau Marmont. "Duran Duran has always
been about the songs."
Lebon, seated in a corner of the lobby with Stefani, Rossdale, Applegate, Donovan Leitch, Andy Taylor, and John Taylor, said that once the original
line-up got back together, they immediately rediscovered the magic. "The chemistry came back within thirty seconds of the writing process," Lebon
said. "It's surprising at first, but it's very easy to slip back into it."
Rhodes estimated that the new album will be out next year -- and he and Lebon agreed that it wouldn't come out until it was ready. "We'll throw more
and more tracks into the live show," Lebon said, "and see how they work. It's a good way of testing things."
