My day with TYPE O NEGATIVE

On Tuesday TON played a gig. Before it there was a signing session organized at my best friend’s music store. Every time she host a band there, I have a possibility of interviewing them for a music magazine I collaborate with. This time my meeting with Peter and Kenny was scheduled on 4.30 p.m. But…
On Monday’s afternoon I had a call from TON’s promoter in Poland: ‘Peter had cancelled all interviews’. On Tuesday’s morning we got another call; we were informed that Steele had decided not to come to the signing session! We were so angry. There were many fans waiting outside the store already!
Luckily another call was nicer – there was still a little chance to persuade Peter. We had to talk to him personally! 30 minutes later we were at a venue where TON was supposed to play that evening. Peter was at TON’s tour bus, sleeping. We waited for him at a catering room. We smoke couple cigarettes with Kenny. He was very nice but left us very quickly because of many interviews he still had to give. There was also Johnny talking to some journalists.
Few minutes after 4 p.m. Mr. Steele came, greeted us warmly and asked ‘so, when are we leaving for signing session?’. Ufff, we didn’t have to pray him to come! His manager must have persuaded him before.
We gave him an album of modern Polish painter Beksinski. Peter liked it very much. Excused us and went to take a shower. Than we saw TON’s sound check. They played “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’. Sounded fantastic!
We called a taxi cab (mini bus) and all together went to the music store. Whole way spent on chatting with the guys nicely. I could hardly understand what Peter was speaking because his accent is very strange to me. I’m not a native English speaker but I got used to his voice. The trip to the store was very funny; the guys were great.
There were around 600 fans waiting for TON. When Peter saw them said ‘Are they all Polish? Fuck, I wanna go home!’. In meanwhile he asked us to order for him three hamburgers from McDonald’s. Of course, Peter almost crashed an elevator in the store with his head!
The guys spent 90 minutes at the store. Peter put kiss on hand’s of many girls. Everybody seemed to be very happy. After the signing we ordered two cabs as there were no more mini buses available at the moment. I was in a cab with Kenny and Josh. They drank a wine given to them by a fan. I mentioned to the guys about my plans of going to NYC and that I want to attend their gig in NYC. Josh said: 'Don't waste your time on TON. There are so many interesting things to do in NYC.'

In the venue they ate a lot Polish sausage which became their favorite dish, I guess.

I spent whole concert standing at the right side of the stage. I must say that the show was a bit boring. All songs sounded the same to me, Peter’s voice was too quiet. And they didn’t sing my favorite song which is ‘Cinnamon Girl’.
Suddenly a girl appeared on the stage and embraced Peter. Security guys had problems with separating her from the singer! Peter smiled to Josh and Johnny.
We left the stage after 45 minutes and went to have a beer. We met our friend – a Polish gothic diva and the rest of the gig we spent on chatting with her.

After the show there came many fans to the backstage. I don’t know who allowed them to go there. TON’s manager asked a girl who was responsible for catering to move TON’s dinner (composed of Polish sausage) to their dressing room but when Peter saw so many girls in the catering room, he decided to eat there. The same about the rest of the band. We said goodbye to Kenny and Johnny and asked to greet from us our friends - The 69 Eyes’ guys with whom they will be playing in Helsinki (it’s today – on Friday) during Tuska Open Air Metal Festival. Kenny remembered Jyrki from a party a couple years ago.
The promoter of TON told me an my friend that Peter will stay in Warsaw two next days and asked us to take care of him during his stay! Wow! It wasn’t the first time when were asked for such a favor. We are on good terms with the promoter and he doesn’t live in Warsaw so every time there is a band or a singer from his record company, me and my friend are asked to show them Warsaw.
Unfortunately Peter called neither us nor the promoter. We saw him walking in Old Town of Warsaw the next day. There was also a tall girl with him. They were holding their hands… We left them alone…
