the first kiss
the day is bright and deep with heat
the ocean swells and churns and teems
summer’s long and we are young
immortalized and just begun
out there in the sand we meet
alone and wild; the kiss is sweet
forget the world, the song is sung
and melts like chocolate on the tongue

run with me
temp the beast and flirt with fire
underfoot, like glowing coals
a song that starts within the throat
grows deafening, invades my soul
soon the flames that burn no more
become the only things that quench
the quiet I have known so long
shaken from me inch by inch
the ceremony calls it out
(a side of me I’ve never seen)
the dance I’ve learned I’ll not forget
awakened now, I live my dreams
