When was the first time you saw The Cult?

Sorry I'm new here and finally found a gr8 The Cult forum..this place is awesome. Anyways, this has porbably been asked many times before but: When was the first time you went to see The Cult in concert? Me, I was a freshmen at SDSU and a little known band at that time (Guns and Roses) opened up for them..hehehe..it was The Cult's Electric tour..I would say the Electric Tour epitomized The Cult and they're energy every fan loves.

Hey now, Electric! Hows it goin'? Glad to have you aboard!
The first time I saw The Cult was when they opened up for Metal-sell-out-ica at Poplar Creek Music Theatre in Hoffman Estates, IL. The boys were on the "Sonic Temple Tour". Then later, me and my pals saw them at The Aragon B(r)allroom in Chicago. They were headlining that night on thier own tour ( Sonic Temple still) with: Dangerous Toys ( cool 80's Hair Band ) and Bonham (the Late John Bonhams' sons' band )

Saturday, 7 August 1999 @ The Tabernacle in Atlanta Ga. Took a one hour flight from Tampa to Atlanta, and then walked ... yes, that's right I said walked more then 11 miles to get to the concert ... but it was worth it ... saw the concert, met the band after the show, and I've still got the autographs, ticket (signed by Matt), and photo of me and Ian hanging up on my living room wall to prove it ...

just testing here:

July, 4th 1987 or '88 (don't remember which year) at Pine Knob in Michigan. They opened for Metallica on the "and Justice for all" Tour. It was my first and best rock concert. Couldn't hear for two days after....and the crowd got so out of hand they were acrually tearing out the flip down seats in the ampitheatre. Rock on!

I said "Elemental" and just then, it started to rain.

Hi electric and welcome to a great board and Cult web site.

The first time I ever saw the Cult was in 1990 and I really didn't go to see them play!!!! There was a Memphis band playing on this three band concert called Tora Tora and they were who I wanted to see!!!!!
When the Cult came on and I saw Mr.Astbury and Mr. Duffy I knew then and there I would follow this band to the very end. If these guys stubbed their toes I wanted to know about it. I had heard their songs but didn't much care about them(please don't bash me for that guys) and when the final song was played, I think it was She Sells Sanctuary, I was a Cult fan 4-life.

Ok, I'll bite, however this will take just a bit of history on my part. When I was a kid I was, like so many of us, glued to MTV (when it didn't suck). My whole family would watch. I vaguely remember the 'Sanctuary' video on occasion, but the ringer for me was, of course, 'Firewoman'. I have always loved the song, and I liked the video, and I would go around singing it all over the house. Mind you though, as a little girl, all I could see was all that hair flying around, and I remember thinking "I love this song but that guy is creepy looking!" Sorry Ian. All I can say to that is that, well, tastes change.

:D

So, years passed, and the Sonic Temple tape got shuffled around. I often took it out and would listen to a few songs I liked on it, but it would end up back in the box. Then a few years ago I was moving out of my parents' house and I found the tape in a box under my bed. I know, shameful. I put it in the player as I continued to pack, and I found myself sitting down with my mouth open. I couldn't believe I'd had this tape for so long and never listened to the whole thing! I was so happy to have found something new but so mad I could have kicked myself.

Imagine my dissapointment when I found out they were no longer a band! And then imagine my psychotically happy episode when I found out that they had just reformed and were coming to Myrtle Beach!!! So the first time I saw them, I was so hyped up for the show, and I was not dissapointed in the least...it was amazing. It was August of 1999. Two years later I saw them again, same place, and met everyone but Duffy. I saw them again the year after in the same place as well.

*sigh* I love these guys.

After that went to england every year to buy EVERYTHING i could get from THE CULT.

live 1989 manchester. must admit it was a bad show.
would like to see a 'proper' one just ONCE in this life!!!!!!!!!!!!

but then....

i'm not feeling like pussy footing around all you bright young things...

first time i saw the Cult live was when they were Death Cult...in 1983 in Glasgow Scotland...

i had seen a TV show in 81 or 82 which had some live clips of Southern Death Cult on it...those special few moments were to change this strange mans life...i bought Fatman/Moya on 7" single as soon as it came out...and never looked back....

i have also had the pleasure of seeing live

New Model Army
Mission(Sisterhood)
Feilds Of The Nephilim
Sisters Of Mercy
Wall Of Voodoo
Lords Of The New Church

and on and on...but why these?...because i saw them with their original line up...

can u feel this great wave of pleasure that is sweeping over me?... :moon:

From Velvet night came forth our torch burns eternal,
For time is but a dream and our mischeif be infernal,

i have only seen them 2wice all together.
they are so awesome-wish i could have seen them during LOVE.

IMHO the two best tours were the Love and Electric Tours. This was The Cult is thir best form. I saw them at the HOB on Sunset in Los Angeles. It was a SOLD OUT show, 3 days, it was great because of the venue, very small, the energy of Ian is what makes The Cult survive. His mysticism and showmanship is something that needs to be witnessed to truly understand what The Cult is about.
