and we see Matt Sorum posing with what looks like his corvette on the Cultnet site.

what do you think of 'em?
I aint too crazy about the Cuda. I wonder how much horsepower, liters and torque it has.
i dont know if anyone would know this.....

I do like Matts-its pretty stylin. :)

I've never really been into american cars but some of them are very nice though... Viper GTS /R, 1959 Corvette Conv, AC Cobra, Shelby Mustang (Cage's in 60 secs...) otherwise I mostly think it's just mustle cars without REAL "driving abilty". Italian cars on the other hand isn't always as powerful, but has the driving ability. Precise steering in corners etc. and VERY important: The enginepower IS TRANSFERRED TO THE ROAD.

Lemme give U an example:
Viper GTS vs. Ferrari 355 F1 Spider. I was watching the 2 cars doing a 1/4 mile and before the Viper could stop burning tyres the 355 already reached the goal line in the other end....
The Viper has 50% more horsepower on 20 inch, 360 mm wide alloy wheels than the 355 and even U don't stand a chance in controlling them....

Here I see a general problem with lots of American "Mustle" cars, it cannot transfer it's power to the road....at least not quick enough!!! A close friend of mine rented a Viper GTR in Vegas in february and he told me it was great fun but at the same time uncontrolable. "In 3rd gear doing 110 mph, step on it and it starts spinning on the backwheels...." Pretty amazing but imagine how fast the car would accelerate if it didn't spin....That’s a problem U don't have in a Maserati Shamal!!! It's a 400 HP V8 Bi-Turbo and U can “step” ALL U wan’t, IT WILL NOT SPIN!!! It just fly away like lightning…

I know this is ofcourse also a matter of taste I n cars, but italian cars has always been ground breaking in design and makes extrordinary BEAUTIFUL cars. Just take a look at old classics like Alfa Romeo Spider and the Gran Turismo-series both older and newer models. I also like english cars, Jaguar, TVR, Aston Martin…..and U should also check out Swedish “Koenigsegg” it’s also VERY nice!!!

I got a 57 Chevy with a 500 hp Supercharged rat motor.... Man you cant drive it without a grin. Wheel spin, You better believe it.... Thats part of the fun!... When the monsters trying to switch ends on you at 100mph but you just gotta keep your foot in...... Man thats adrenalin..... Then you hit the Nitrous oxide for another 100 hp ...... C'mon wheres the fun in a car that does as its told? wheres the driver in this equasion? Cars like all the old yanks have to be DRIVEN .... Not all safe n nice ... But man if I can just get it pointing in the right direction I think I can keep it roof up!:lol:

My step-dad has a road racer Mustang that can hang with Porsche's, etc. and ALWAYS takes them on the straight aways....It all depends....

Plus, have you ever driven an American muscle car? There just is NO comparison. Yeah, they might not "handle" as well as a Ferrari, but nothing is gonna give you that "kick in the pants" adrenaline rush like a Detroit V-8. If you've never driven one...you just can't relate. SORRY!

It's a total sensory thing. Burning rubber...the smell of the vinyl seats....exhaust so load you think you'll go deaf.

I'll give up a little handling and traction for a 1965 Shelby GT-350 any day of the week.

Plus, you really can't compare a classic muscle car to some exotic Ferrari or something. Think of it like comparing rock and roll to classical music. Muscle cars are fun and exhilerating. They're not supposed to be refined and dignified.

It's all about being tough. Maybe you just don't get it.

Lobster: Have U ever driven a Ferrari or Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, De Tomaso or Lamborghini. I’m talking about REAL cars!!! Not that Cuda-bathtub on the pic U linked to……Ian has great taste in music but a REAL bad taste in cars. Why is it so damn ugly…..I just don’t get it??? Who designed it? A 5 year old kid…!? The American cars I mentioned above are real beauties…..Viper, Mustang, Chevi Conv. etc.

My point is: Buy an Italian car and U get it ALL…..beautiful design, muscles, driving and steering ability like in no other car, comfort, raw power, race-feeling, fabulous sound (from the engine, NOT the exhaust), and loads of equipment.

Have U ever heard the sound of a Maserati 2.24v Bi-Turbo? It’s a 2.0 Liter V6 Engine with the sound of a Viper or a Ferrari. Rather small engine, 245 HP and runs to 60Mph. in 5,8 Secs. At the same time U have hand-sewn seats with the finest Italian leather. On the dashboard U have hand-sewn suede. Metal-floor panels with car logos on it. REAL Wood-panels on dashboard and doors, Electrical seats, full-automatic climatic control, an in the middle an analogue Rolex gold watch with the Maserati Crown in the middle…….and driving it gives U the feeling of being inside of a race car because of perfect adjusted suspension…

NOW THAT’S TOUGH!!! :moon: Oh yeah....I DO GET IT!!!

...and comparing a Cuda to a Maserati would be like Britney vs. Cult!!!

yeh-Lobster, thanks for the thread. as for what you're saying.... i guess i see where you're coming from. i guess it all comes down to what you're looking and expecting your car to do.
the souped up american cars are definitely strong-i've driven a mustang....its not bad....i haven't ever driven a porshce so i cant compare.
but yeh-i see what you're saying. :)
i think i like the refinement/reliability better...plus i like the aesthetics better of euro cars. more aerodynamic, less clunky. most american cars are so damn clunky. only the corvette and the viper are exceptions. you probably disagree.

First off my apologies to Real Astbury Girl. I meant to be responding to Cboxoak thread.

I do agree that American Cars are clunky. And, yes the Corvette and the Viper are the exceptions. You just can't compare a $25,000 Mustang to a Ferrari. You get what you pay for.
And classic muscle cars are a completely different breed.

To Cboxoak:

Yes, I have driven many European cars: Ferraris, Porsches, Alphas, and a Lotus. I grew up around race tracks. My step dad has been racing in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America -road racing) for over 30 years. He's owned and driven Datsun 240Z's, Spitfires, Aphas, and many open wheel cars. These SCCA races always have tons of European cars, many of the owners being my step father's friends.

On the flip side, my real father is a drag racer from the 60's and owns a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback 289 V-8 with a 4 speed manual transmission. So, I have driven lots of muslce cars also. I've gotten a lot of exposure to both worlds.

I know what you're talking about. I understand your point. Those European cars ARE overall "better." They handle better, brake better, and in some cases are quicker. But you miss the point.

It's about Heritage. It's about style. It's about BRAVADO. It makes no apologies. It's a lot like Rock-n-Roll. As much as I try to explain it, you simply have to experience it to truly understand.

So Cboxoak, I notice you live in Denmark. I mean no disrespect, but the question is....Have you ever driven an CLASSIC American Muscle car? Based on your comments, I'd assume you haven't.

Yes, my dad's '65 Mustang drives like a tank. It steers for crap. The brakes are laughable. BUT, it's kick in the a*s to drive. And it's SO DAMN Beautiful. The lines on that car are as sexy as any I've ever seen.

And as far as asthetics, most of those cars that you mentioned are beautiful. As far as the Maserati, I think it looks like a glamorized 80's Volvo. Very boxy. I've never liked those cars. I don't understand the appeal.

The Cuda.....not my favorite American Car. But, it is a classic. It's has history and balls.

I'm NOT comparing a Ferrari to a 25.000$ Mustang but ITALIAN CARS vs. AMERICAN CARS IN GENERAL. I willing to do the exact same comparison with an Alfa Romeo or a Lancia. Hell they're are all mostly build on the same factory and it was the same set of engineers who started making them WAAAAY back in the days. So give me 25.000$ and I'll find U the finest Italian family-luxury-powerfull 'race' car that will drive the hell out of any American "clunk" U can come up with..... :moon:

I think was this comes down to is we have different opinions and tastes. That's what makes this world interesting. If we were all the same the world would be a pretty boring place.

I'm sorry if my comments about Maserati offended you. It's just my opinion. Just like yours about the Cuda. I just don't like the styling of the Maserati, period. I have not doubt that it is a fine automobile. I never said it wasn't. And, no I haven't driven one.

I am a brutally honest person, so please don't doubt the sincerity of my comments. I have indeed grown up around race tracks my entire life. And, yes Maseratis are rare here.

The first photo in your last link is basically my dad's car, except it's red w/black interior. It still has the original rally wheels, etc. When the 1964 1/2 Mustang came out it changed the world. It was arguable the most popular new car in American automotive history. And, it's never looked back. It had it's share of "crappy" years, from 1974-1984 during the "smog" control years.

During that time most American cars were complete crap. Since then they've come a long way on the road to refinement and quality. The newest Cobra Mustang is a really great car. It has great styling, good handling and lots of power.

Although this is officially still a concept. Ford has reported that it is 90% accurate to the production model that will come out in 2005.

I think.....this is only my opinion....that this car is down right GORGEOUS! If you like the styling of classic Mustangs, I'm sure you'll agree. It combines the heritage of the past with a bold move toward the future.

As far as Italian cars. They are the best. I won't agrue with you on that one. I never did.

Just don't come down on our classic American cars. No one is asking you to like all of them, but it would be nice if you'd show some respect. And, I still insist that you can't possibly understand my point of view on American Muscle Cars unless you've driven one. The same can be said for me never having driven a Maserati.

Please do me a favor. Go rent the movie Bullit with Steve McQueen . This movie has the best "chase scene" in movie history. Steve McQueen is a detective in San Fransisco driving a 1967 Mustang Fastback. I think this car had a 390 V-8. He's chasing a bad guy driving a Dodge Challenger (if my memory serves me correctly.) I think this may give you a "little" taste of what I speak of. Have you seen "Ronin" with Robert Dinero? Another great car movie. I think that car was an Audi A6.

I have to straighten them when inadequate drive skill bends them . I find all these cars so poorly put together so badly finished that its a crime to charge the money they demand. a 40 year old yank is built to a higher standard than a 2 year old Ferrari, I really am not kidding here, The build is awful in almost all cases. But I know you have your opinions , and I have mine so I will stick with my 57 Belair and you stick to what you drive. We can just leave this as quits huh?:cool:

As for trucks...no toyotas...Lets just do chevys!

Remember i said "Mostly" in my post earlier. That doesn't necessaraly mean that ALL american muscle cars a ugly, clunky or "couchie"...

Now U suddenly talk about build....!??? I never mentioned a single word about quality, build or how many malfunctions a car has after 40 years...I know Italian cars doesn't have the best rep. when it comes to quality, but they AREN'T as bad as U describe it. I know cause I've owned 5 different Alfa Romeo's.

I'm just talking about the other stuff above, handing, charm, design, driving ability, etc.

BTW, I have a friend of mine who is REALLY into "Yank Muscle" cars and they all spend 250 days a year in his workshop....so don't gimme that crap 'bout build or quality!!!

If that's the case let's talk about german (Audi, Mercedes) or japanese cars (Mazda, Toyota). OK, they don't last 40 years but it's the finest quality for 10 years at a affordable price...but damn they stink when it comes to the above!!! :moon: :lol:

I was bought up around drag strips. All the fast cars were American, All the biggers and most aggressive looking cars were American, And all the winning cars were American.
I never got off on so cal Super cars, they just looked small and stupid to me.
I have had this thing for Yanks a long time and working with them is something I always wanted, and to a certain extent, Something I HAVE always done.
I still preffer to go stick a 50s or 60s Muscle car hard and fast into a twisty road than a Ferrari or whatever ... I just love to feel ... On the limit... Y'know?

If you gotta have a T bird, Have a 66 with power hood. Looks awesome folding away with the trunk opening backwards and the panels all unfolding to cover the hood . Its almost as cool as the roof on a 57 Retractable.... Almost !:cool:
